If you think nothing pretty grows in the shade, you’re playing the wrong game. Join Master Gardener Juliet Johnson as she explains how color, texture, and movement can delight the eye in a shade garden while offering respite to a weary soul. Shade gardens are where we gardeners can spread our wings creatively. They can be good fun and extremely successful without blowing the budget—especially in our USDA zone of 9A, where the propagation is easy!

Juliet Johnson has killed more plants than the average Floridian. She has learned through expensive experience how to garden far away from her native United Kingdom. She is eternally grateful to the University of Florida and the Duval County Extension Office for their wisdom and patience as she has slowly learned how to create lush, exciting garden spaces. Juliet is the “bed head” for both the shade garden in Walter Jones Historical Park and the pineapple garden at Mandarin Garden Club. Succulents’ magical propagation have captured her heart of late, while struggling with cut flowers is an ongoing adventure.

This program will be offered in-person at the Garden Club and simultaneously on Zoom. Masks are optional for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 but are recommended to help protect everyone. Those who are unvaccinated should wear masks; the Garden Club appreciates your cooperation.

The program is free and open to the public.
